BRIEF HISTORY OF PYTHAGORAS

Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher, or students of knowledge, who lived about 2,500 years ago. He worked in the fields of music and geometry. He formed a religious society and wrote a general account of the world. Pythagoras believed that the earth was spherical and the sun, moon, and planets have movements of their own. His successors developed the idea that the earth revolved about a central fire. This belief anticipated the Copernican Theory of the universe. As a philosopher, Pythagoras taught that numbers were the essence of all things. Therefore, he associated numbers with various colors and ideas. Operating under the name of Pythagoras, the name given and adopted by the Masonic and religious thinkers, offers a challenge to both the youth and the Masonic youth leaders who are striving for high attainment.
WHAT IS A SIR KNIGHT?
The Master Mason or Sir Knight, often becomes a second father to the young men and boys to look up to him for guidance and support. The sir Knight is always there to help his young Knights with problems that they want to discuss. He becomes a source of information and wisdom, but more importantly someone who cares. To young Knights, the world can be confusing, even frightening. Problems often seems overwhelming and impossible. The terrible statistics we hear about today's teenagers truly reflect their need for guidance. When unemployment, alcoholism, drug abuse and suicide run rampant among the youth, they concern Mason who is willing to devote some of his time is truly a welcome ray of hope. Although Sir Knight provide their youth Knight with support, independent thinking is stressed above all.
The Sir Knight may act like a father in many ways, but his gives room for growth and emphasizes that the young Knights must learn to make decisions on his own. The Sir Knight assist in building moral character, and contributing to the lofty principles to the life of your communities. The Sir Knights are always striving together to prepare our Youth Knights to be leaders for tomorrow. The purpose being to teach the principles of good citizenship and be trained in the values of charity and benevolence, the virtues of a wholesome and good life.
WHAT IS A YOUTH KNIGHT?
A Youth Knight is a young man between the ages of 9 through 20 who will carry on what we have begun. The Knight is going to sit where we are, and when we are gone; he will attend to those things that we think are important.
We can adopt all the policies, but how they will be carried out will depend upon the type of training that a Knight will receive today from us. The Youth Knight will take over our Colleges and Universities, Churches, even our State and Nation Governments. Our work will be judged on how well we, as Prince Hall Masons, have prepared our Youth Knights. The future will be in their hands. Our collective objective should be to focus today’s Youth toward becoming educated and responsible enough to interact in a global society. We believe it was Disraeli who said, “The Youth of a nation are the trustees of posterity.” The leaders and sponsors of our Knights of Pythagoras should receive a warm hand for the fine leadership they are giving the boys today. The teachings of the Youth Knights provide the substance which eliminates Pythagoras members from the role of those recognized in juvenile delinquency.
Many Pythagoreans will soon be in places of power and prominence. Members of Pythagoras are the heritage from which are provided the leaders of tomorrow. Many young men of today need Pythagorean teaching and high principles in their formative years of life to adulthood. It is comforting to note that the principles and truth of Masonic teachings date back to the very beginning of time, and these provide the guidance, advice and counsel through which Pythagoreans may prosper. By following these teachings, the leaders of our boys believe that young men learn to be better citizens and leaders, thereby providing a better world of tomorrow.
